Hi. leaving RAD car hire about 9:30 and can pick up along the way then head to TB.
I may leave Temple Basin early Monday 9th and come back to Chch via Porters for a days like there.
Small 5 door rental car.

The Temple Basin Carpark is located beside State Highway 73, 4 kms west of Arthur's Pass Village. The road is sealed and well maintained so chains are rarely needed. The free goods lift which carries all gear and supplies up the mountain, is also located beside State Highway 73 but 800m further west from the carpark. The access walking track starts from the west end of the carpark.
Weather Comment
Rain and high wind today at the Basin. We received a little bit of unforecasted snow. Colder up here than expected. Tomorrow is looking gusty as well!
Information
Welcome to 2026 at Temple Basin! All had epic weekend in the Basin. Monday and Tuesday, the field is closed. We are expected to open on Wednesday. Temple tow will be open again to gain access to downhill basin. Lower parts of the field have low to no snow. Tuesday will bring light snow showers and high winds, adding further snow depth to pockets in the higher terrain. Keep an eye out for clear, calm conditions on Wednesday—perfect reason to take a midweek break from work.
