It’s Friday, it’s feeling like winter, Muel the grader operator finally has something to do, and Porters is open with all lifts spinning. It’s shaping up to be a good day!! At 5:45 am, we have cloudy skies and light winds in the base area with moderate north westerly winds at ridgeline. The forecast is for winds to turn southerly later this morning, with dropping temperatures and snow showers, becoming heavier around lunchtime. It is currently 3.5 degrees in our base area. Today will be the perfect opportunity to see if your outerwear lives up to the hype on the label, and if your low light lenses actually do work. If you have a sense of adventure, superhero like reflexes in low viz, and a high tolerance for spicy conditions, you could be rewarded with some fun skiing and riding today. If this isn’t your thing, come up anyway, welcome the late arrival of winter, and enjoy a coffee and pie in our nice warm cafe. The access road is currently chain-free, however with snow in the forecast today, all vehicles travelling to the ski area need to carry chains that fit their tyres, as they may be required later. If you do not have chains, please park at chain bay 2 and use our shuttle service, which leaves at 9:30am and 10:30am. Return shuttles will be available all afternoon. We do not hire chains. If you’re looking for a lesson, pop into our ticket office and book a spot with one of our instructors – we have options for all ages and abilities. Kids 10 and under ski for free at Porters. Porters Lodge Restaurant and Bar, just 6km up our access road, will be open for coffee from 9am, and meals from 11am. Pop in for Apres after enjoying a day on our uncrowded slopes. Snowplay will be closed today. Check back tomorrow for an update – we expect to have it open for the weekend.
